This introduction video is intended to grab the students attentions and make them interested in both ecosystems as a whole, and the endangered Saint Francis' Butterfly. Ecosystems are extremely vital and important to plants and animal survival all across the globe. They are affected by many different factors such as fire, pollution, and global warming that harm them in many different ways. This short Go-Animate is primarily intended to spark interest in the student. This is accomplished through interactive questions and relatable situations for the students. Prior to showing the video, ask and have the students answer the following questions as a class. The desired answers are those that follow each question.
1. What is an ecosystem?
Answer: An ecosystem consists of any living organism (plants, animals, etc. ) working together with non-living components (water, air, etc. ) as a functioning system.
2. What are some examples of things that can hurt the ecosystem?
Answer: There are many things that can harm the environment. These can include a variety of things ranging from fire, pollution, and global warming.
3. What do you believe makes an animal endangered?
Answer: Many factors come into affecting an animal's possible extinction. Some of the main factors that would influence are mainly found through the ecosystem. These include things such as food sources, harmful surroundings, and current population.
After getting as many answers as possible and briefly discussing them, show the short video.
In closing to the video, ask the students a couple final questions as follow.
4. What is one thing the people at the fort can do to help the butterflies?
Answer: One way they can help the butterflies, is possibly create an alternative field that they could use as their artillery zone. This will benefit the both of them by creating a place for them to practice, and giving the butterflies a place to live peacefully without being harmed.
5. After watching the introduction video, how important do you believe an animal's ecosystem is to their survival?
